When you have adult children and lots of grand-babies in town for a visit, family portraits all together are a must. I personally love photographing big families with lots of kids. I bring prizes for smiles and props for natural looking laughs and expressions from the little ones. I am not afraid to look goofy to get the perfect photo. The location for this session is the Monarch Grove Butterfly Park off Highway 1 in Pismo Beach. Just follow the trail over the pond and to the trees where the sand starts. This is a great location for safe, social distancing in downtown Pismo Beach. This location gives you a lot of background choices for photos and different spots to take photos. It is perfect for family photos, senior portraits, head shots, maternity photos, engagement and elopement photos. I don’t think I could ever get bored capturing photos at this location. As a parent myself, I understand it can be stressful getting your children relaxed and happy for photos. I work quickly in helping everyone get comfortable and capturing the kids energy. Some of my favorite photos are the candid ‘s that I didn’t originally plan on taking. We can take as many breaks as you need. My best piece of advice is to plan your photo shoot during a quiet time in your daily routine. Nap times and meals times are a no-no even though the best light of the day may be in that time frame.
Even with big groups, I always try to take the smaller, individual families photos as well. Bonus if we have time to get photos of just the couples without kids. Just because you are a parent, doesn’t mean you don’t need a sweet picture alone with your spouse or partner.
